By Laws - By Laws and Standing Rules have been re-drafted to
organize content in a more concise and logical manner. In addition the
draft proposes to eliminate the Executive Council since the need for
this body has changed with the implementation of the Executive Cabinet
and elected Regional Representatives. Re-drafted By-Laws and
Standing Rules were approved and are posted this website on the
Forms & Info page |
Legal Name - When OHC was originally incorporated in 1974 the
Articles of Organization filed with the state of Ohio identified the
organization as the Ohio Horsemen's Council, Inc.
Starting in 1989 several documents were filed as the Ohio Horseman's
Council and so the confusion began. Over the years
documents, banners, websites have all incorporated the name Ohio
Horseman's Council and the original legal name of the organization was
forgotten. Paperwork has been filed to register both names for
the organization so that either can be used.

Finance - A balanced budget was presented for 2010.
Regional Grants were eliminated from the budget due to the recent
purchase of the DR Mowers. |
 |
Insurance - Summary policy forms for the Equine Liability
Policy were given to the Chapter Presidents to hand out to their
chapter members. The Insurance committee will only mail forms to
At Large Members - all other members should get copies from their
chapter president. |
Event insurance certificates will be sent e-mail and will not be sent
thru the postal service to the chapter. The Insurer is now
e-mailing the certificates to OHC and Jackie Romaker, insurance
committee chairman will forward them to the Chapter via e-mail as
well. Therefore, please make sure that you provide an e-mail
address on the Event Insurance Application Form
 |
Legislative - There are 2 issues on the November ballot that
involve the equine industry. The OHC strongly supports Issue 2
(Livestock board). OHC has not taken a position on State Issue 3
(Casino's)
Committee report National issues include H.R.503
(slaughter) and NAIS (identification)
Status of National Issues. |
 |
Membership - Renewals for 2010 need to be to Barb Gerard by
12/15 to avoid uninterrupted delivery of the Corral (Renewals
should be sent to OHC Treasurer, Sheila Craft, - so be sure to
get them to her as soon as possible so she can get them to Barb by the
deadline). Clermont County had the most new members in 2009.
Next year an award will be given to the county with the most "net
gain" in membership (ie new members-non renewals)
instead of just the most new members. This way a chapter
will be recognized for retaining current members as well as recruiting
new ones.

 |
Nominations - It's not too early to start thinking about
nominations for next year's officers. Several positions have
fulfilled their maximum terms and new officers will be needed.
Nominations should be sent to the nominating committee chairmen, Jim
Corman |

Trail - Our long-time friend and trail supporter Dan West has
retired from ODNR. Don Hunter is taking his place. DR
mowers purchased last year (1 for each region) are available for use
by each county for trail maintenance. A $20 fee "rental fee" is
charged to help fund maintenance for the machines. Mowers can
only be kept for a 2 week period at a time. OHC is still trying to put
together a Chainsaw certification class with the Division of Forestry
so that OHC members will be able to use train saws for trail
maintenance. Cost of the course is expected to be $50.
Contact Larry Matthews if you're interested in getting certified. |
 |
Trail Usage - Reporting of Trail Miles, Saddle Hours, and
Maintenance Hours/$ have all been combined on one form this year.
County members should submit their individual info to the person in
their chapter (county reporter) who is responsible for collecting the
chapters information. County reporters need to forward the information
to Beth Bardash by January 31st. See the
Trail & Saddle Hour page for more info on the program. See
the Forms page for
the latest reporting forms. |
OHC welcomes 2 additional members to the Trail Riders Hall of Fame for
logging 25,000 miles. This lifetime achievement award was
bestowed upon Nancy Huffman (Washington County) and Wendy Metzler
