.........Horsemen helping Horseme

Regional Work Weekend April 21-22, 2007 - Hocking State Forest

A regional work weekend was held at the Hocking State Forest on April 21-22, 2007 to finish the project at "Fat Man's Squeeze" started by the Ohio Trails Partnership in March.  The project utilized horses to haul limestone from the "gravel pile" at the bottom of the hill up 900' of switchbacks to the top..  The trail traverses thru beautiful hemlocks and rock cliffs  - but the trail between the rocks was muddy and needed hardened.  The trail is inaccessible to equipment, so "horsepower" was needed to do the job.   The OTP made substantial headway in March and volunteers got together in April to finish the project.

The group was smaller, but many counties were represented.  (Thanks to Fairfield, Hocking, Licking, Delaware, Vinton, Wayne, Pike, and Morgan counties for attending).  The weather was beautiful and the group moved 20 Ton of gravel up the hill.

The trail thru the rocks at "Fat Man's Squeeze" has now been totally hardened as well as a portion of the trail entering and exiting  this area.

When you ride the trail this summer - remember to say a little thank-you to the folks who helped make this portion of your ride a little more enjoyable.
